The Sailors Return: a young sailor approaches the death-bed of his mother, holding out his hat, full of coins. The Soldiers Return; A father, sitting at a tabe covered with money bags and papers, joins the hands of a young woman and a soldier wearing uniform and a plumed hat (probably approving of a marriage between his daughter and her partner). A dog watches from the foreground.
