A pair of allegorical scenes. In 'War' an army officer embraces his wife and child before leaving for war, watched by a maid and a negro pageboy, with massed troops and ships in the background. 'Peace' depicts a cottage interior, with a soldier with a scythe on his shoulder, a farmer gesturing trough the door to other harvesters working in a field with a windmill. Singleton's original oils were sold at a Sotheby's sale of Important British Pictures in November 2007.

Minerva with helmet and shield, an owl to the left and lamb and cockerel to the right, a boy at her feet holding an open book. Top left a putto holds up a mirror, with two others holding up an uroboros (the ancient ring symbol of a snake eating its own tail) to the right. From a series of four moral allegories, with Happiness, Providence & Innocence.

Etching with hand-colouring and gold-leaf, sheet 240 x 170mm (9½ x 6¾"). Trimmed to image on 3 sides.
Allegorical scene showing the rewards of virtue. Inside the central oval are figures demonstrating healing, justice, charity and other virtues, while in the corners of the sheet outside the oval are vices such as alchemy, sorcery and drunkenness. Published by Giovanni Antonion Remondini (1634-1711), founder of the Remondini print publishing company which operated in Bassano del Grappa until 1860.
