The Armenian priest Dergoumidas is condemned to death by the Grand Vizier Alì Pascià for having converted to Catholicism, an episode which actually took place on 5 November 1707. The engraving was seemingly the source for G.A. Guardi's 'Dergoumidas Before the Grand Vizier', one of his 'quadri Turchi' painted for Field Marshal Count Johann Matthias von der Schulenburg (1661-1747). Guardi's painting was sold at Sotheby's in 2005 (Old Master Paintings Evening Sale, 7 December 2005, lot 61).

Junks in the harbour of Ezo, Japan, one with the Rising Sun flag on its sail. After a watercolour by Eduard Hildebrandt (1818-69). Born in Gdansk, Hildebrandt travelled constantly, including visits to the Middle East, India, Singapore, Siam (Thailand), Macao, Hong Kong, China, The Philippines, Japan and the United States. He worked mainly in watercolours, and his paintings were exhibited in London in 1866 and at the Crystal Palace in 1868, just a year before his death in Berlin. A folio of chromolithographs, mounted in imitation of watercolour presentation, was published as 'Reise um die Erde', (Journey around the World).
