View of London from Highgate, after Frederick Nash (1782-1856). 'Nash's greatest pleasure was to sketch from nature: in 1822 he built a small house at 1 Robert Street off the Hampstead Road with a studio on top, open on all four sides, to allow him to study the skies. He rose early and was generally out sketching between five and six in the morning, often sitting in the rain while a boy held an umbrella after him' (DNB).
