A fine aquatint engraving of various sailing boats, passing by The Needles, a row of three distinctive stacks of chalk that rise out of the sea off the Isle of Wight, close to Alum Bay. Edition strictly limited to 150 signed artist proofs only (no other state). Robert Herdman-Smith (1879-1945) was born in Liverpool and exhibited at the Royal Academy and Paris Salon. He taught at the Wellington Technical School, New Zealand, from 1902, later returning to England.
