A head and shoulders portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte as general of the Republican army, wearing a military coat with a decorated hem, black stock and white waistcoat, hair over his collar. Although the print appears to be a proof before all letters, the mezzotinted area is shorter than the scratched letter version (see item 5295 and BM 1926,0412.108).
