An interior scene in which a baby, presumably the result of an illicit love affair, a id taken from its distressed mother, who is comforted by a man and a woman. This engraving, after a gouach by Pierre Antoine Baudouin (1723-69), was advertised in 'Mercure de France', June 1777. A very fine proof impression from a not entirely cleaned plate with wide margins as issued and vignette armorial below image.
