[Le Fruit de l'Amour Secret.]
[From the painting by P. Baudouin. Engraved by Voyez.]
[n.d., c. 1780.]
Engraving, proof before all letters, 465 x 335mm. Occasional isolated spotting, largely to margins.
A sombre scene in which a baby, presumably the result of an illicit love affair, appears to be being taken from its distressed mother, who is comforted by a man and a woman. A very fine proof impression from a not entirely cleaned plate with wide margins as issued and vignette armorial below image. Engraved by either Francois or Nicolas Joseph Voyez, brothers and both pupils of Beauvarlet born in the 1740s. After a painting by Pierre Antoine Baudouin (1723 - 1769) who worked in Boucher's studio and married his daughter.
J. Herbert Slater: Engravings And Their Value. State ii of iii.
[Ref: 7367] £420.00
