A half-length portrait in oval of Edward, Montagu (1692-1722), Viscount Hinchingbrooke, depicted aged 8. The eldest son of the Earl of Sandwich, he married at fourteen and commanded a troop in Sir Richard Temple's Regiment of Horse for the 1709 campaign in Flanders aged fifteen. Hinchingbrooke was one of the infamous Mohocks and was arrested for assaulting a watchman in 1712. This did not stop him being elected MP for Huntingdon the following year, serving until 1722. In March 1722, a month before he died, he was named Lord Lieutenant of Huntingdonshire. His son John later became the fourth Earl of Sandwich.
