Half-length portrait of John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough (1650-1722), in an oval. Looking towards the viewer, wearing a long wig, a lace cravat, a chain of the Order of the Garter and his armour. The Duke of Marlborough was one of England’s greatest generals, who led British and allied armies to important victories over Louis XIV of France.
