Copy by Abraham Aubry of an etching by Wenceslaus Hollar (1607-77), whose etching was originally issued as part of a set of four English views (the other three were of central London and Windsor). Born in Bohemia, Hollar spent around 32 of his 52 years as a professional artist working in England. An outstanding draughtsman and topographical etcher, Hollar's work was enormously varied and has done much to inform the way that 17th century London is visualised.
