Also known as Sur les Dunes (On The Dunes). The scene depicts a young woman and two children seated on a dune on the left, looking out to the sea, with a sailing boat in the distance. Jozef Israels (1824 – 1911) was a Dutch painter, born to Jewish parents. He was a leading member of the group of landscape painters referred to as the Hague School and was, during his lifetime, "the most respected Dutch artist of the second half of the nineteenth century."
