The area around the 1789 square tower was known as Prince's Meadow made up of dwelling houses, warehouses, dyehouses, storehouses, accounting houses, brewhouses, coachhouses, carthouses, stables, sawhouses, cranes, sheds, wharves, yards, gardens, fields, ponds and canals.
