Large mixed method engraving, fine impression. 720 x 1200mm (28¼ x 47¼"). Repaired tears, including one entering image at top and one through title area.
A view of the aftermath of the Battle of Cape St Vincent, with Commodore Horatio Nelson receiving the surrender of 'San José', one of the two ships his boarders had overrun, using the novel technique of crossing one ship to get to the second.. Brought into the Royal Navy and renamed 'San Josef', the ship was finally broken up in 1849.
