Rare etching with hand colour, 18th century watermark. Sheet 340 x 200mm (13½ x 8"). Trimmed within plate. Slight damage.
Various men climb a steep slope, carrying an axe marked 'Cromwell', a knife, rifle, a pen pot marked 'Artillery', a cross and a banner with the Prince of Wales's feathers. At the top, on a motte marked 'Constitution', is George III in crown and ermine, reading a book marked 'Public Good'. Although the satire is very English, it was published the year before the French Revolution began.
