A view of the Porta Maggiore, with the remains of aqueducts Aqua Claudia and Aqua Anio Novus, which were integrated into the Aurelian Wall as a gate in 271 AD. The Acqua Felice was built by Pope Sixtus (Felice Peretti) in 1586. The medieval buildings have now been cleared.
The first state, before the plate number, issued unbound. From an early 19th century folder titled 'Roman Engravings. The Property of Major E.G.G. Rugdon[?]'.
