A group of young men make a toast as a footman tried to revive one of their number. After being introduced to drinking and gambling, he loses his fortune, borrows money from a usurer, joins the army, fights a duel and dies from his wounds. One of a rare series of nine plates by George Dawe, updating Hogarth's 'Rake's Progress'. Dawes was best known for his portraits of Russian military figures of the Napoleonic Wars, now in the Hermitage Museum.
