A man in coachman's uniform propels a hobby horse along a country road, his mistress sitting in a basket chair on the front, a cat in her lap, a parrot in a cage, two monkeys tormenting the coachman and a dog dragging behind. The first usable velocipede, a forerunner of the bicycle but without pedals, was patented by the German Karl Drais in 1818, the year before this satire was published.
