A satirical scene showing Edmund Gibson, Bishop of London (1669-1748), Thomas Herring, Bishop of York later Archbishop of Canterbury (1693-1757) and Benjamin Hoadly, Bishop of Winchester (1676-1761) competing to get to Lambeth first for the position of Archbishop of Canterbury following the death of John Potter in 1747. The manuscript below the print identifies Gibson and Hoadly and Thomas Sherlock, Bishop of Salisbury incorrectly.
