Jan van Eyck (c.1395-1441), painter and illuminator best known for his completion of the Ghent altarpiece and his double portrait of Giovanni Arnolfini and Giovanna Cenami ('the Arnolfini Marriage') now in London's National Gallery. Third state of a plate first published in 1572. In this state it was published after 1600 in the Antwerp publisher Theodor Galle's 'Illustrium Quos Belgium Habuit Pictorum Effigies. Antwerpiae'.
