A scene showing the HMS Investigator, captained by Robert McClure, trapped in the ice on the north coast of Canada, while searching for the lost ship of Sir John Franklin. The crew were forced to abandon the ship and those who survived were eventually rescued by the Royal Navy. Plate 4 of 8 sketches in colour from Cresswell's voyage of H.M.S. Investigator 1854 to discover the North-West Passage.
