Illustration to Captain Charles Johnson's 'General History of the Lives and Adventures of the Most Famous Highwaymen, Murderers, Street-Robbers etc' (1736). The book contains short biographies of both historical and fictitious criminals. It has generally been accepted that Johnson was a pseudonym for another author, although claims that the author was Daniel Defoe have never been proven.
