This is very probably the Hindu holy city of Varanasi (Benares) on the River Ganges, one of the favourite subjects for Ernest Stephen Lumsden [1883 - 1948]. Born in London, Lumsden produced 336 original prints between 1905 and 1935, many of which are concerned with his travels, particularly in India, where he travelled several times between 1912 and 1927. He drew inspiration from the work of Haden and Whistler.
