A portrait of Henry Howard (c.1617-1747), oldest son of the 3rd Duke of Norfolk, and his wife Frances (c.1516-77). The identification as his father was added later. Henry, one of the first English poets to write in the sonnet form that Shakespeare later used, was beheaded for treason by an ill and paranoid Henry.
