Nogari Pinx. P. Peiroleri del et sculp.
[n.d., c.1755]
Rare engraving, sheet 290 x 240mm (11½ x 9½"). Trimmed inside platemark top and bottom.
Old man holding pencil and spectacles, after the Venetian painter Giuseppe Nogari (1699-1766). Nogari's master is believed to have been Giovanni Battista Piazzetta, whose influential portrait busts were surely an influence on Nogari on this evidence. Nogari was popular with patrons from Italy, Germany and England. He worked for the British Consul in Venice, Joseph Smith (also an important patron to Canaletto) and also contributed to the decorations of the Palazzo Reale in Turin, which may be relevant to the Turin-based printmaker Pietro Peiroleri engraving this print.
[Ref: 38314] £260.00
