A proof impression of plate 1 from Valentine Green's 'Antiquities', published 1778. The ruins of the castle gate of Ludlow Castle, with rustic figures and a horse-drawn cart at the entrance. After landscape painter William Hodges (1744-1797), who had sailed with Captain James Cook and recorded his discoveries, returning to Britain in 1775.
