Henry Fuseli [1741 - 1825], Swiss painter of heroic, literary and surreal themes who first came to London in 1764. He became professor of Painting (1799-1805) and then Keeper (1804-25) at the Royal Academy, where he taught a whole generation of artists, including Constable, Haydon and Lawrence. His inclination towards the fantastic was given scope in his paintings for Boydell's Shakespeare Gallery.
