Sir John Barley Corn's Arm Supporters.

Sir John Barley Corn's Arm Supporters.Ask why this Vintner thrives who doth beknave all! [...]

[London, Printed for R. Sayer & J. Bennett, Map & Printsellers, No. 53, Fleet Street; as the Act directs, 17th. 1779]
Mezzotint, sheet 345 x 250mm (13½ x 9¾"). Trimmed inside platemark, losing publication line; folded through centre; false margins added; damaged; rubbed. 'CL-B' collector's stamp verso.
Satire on a publican and his customers' dependence on him. A sign above the entrance identifies the publican as 'Peter Swilltub / Dealer in Foreign Spiritous Liquors'. He gathers to him a mason drinking port (left) and a tailor drinking gin (right). The text below laments the ruinous state of these figures.
