A view of the town of Banff, Aberdeenshire, from a hillside. Cattle can be seen in the foreground, with figures in a street lined by walls in the middle ground. A large house on an estate sits behind, overlooking the bay, with buildings on the coast and hillside in the background, and a church on the hilltop in the distance. From William Daniell's 'A Voyage Round Great Britain', a series of 308 aquatints published in eight volumes between 1814-1825, described by R.V. Tooley as 'the most important colour plate book on British Topography'.
