A ship in trouble of a rocky shore, men working to save sailors from the water, after Joseph Vernet (1714-89, father of Carle Vernet). The engraver's name is Charles Corbutt, of whom nothing can be traced other than his prints. It is generally believed that the name is a pseudonym used by Richard Houston and probably also by Richard Purcell.
