A plate from 'Cook's Voyage to the Pacific'. A view of the interior of a ceremonial long house located in the heiau (burial ground) in the Kingdom of Atooi, in Hawaii. An altar and two carved figures are erected at the back of the house, the house being open on one side. John Webber (1751-93) travelled with Captain Cook on the Third Voyage (1776-80) as the Official Artist of the expedition, recording the explorer's death at the hand of Hawaiian natives.
