A plate from 'Cook's Voyage to the Pacific'. Two canoes, sailing to the left, with two men in the upper one, which has a curved tip, both rowing with single-headed paddles. One is in the lower canoe, rowing both sides with a double-headed paddle. John Webber (1751-93) travelled with Captain Cook on the Third Voyage (1776-80) as the Official Artist of the expedition, recording the explorer's death at the hand of Hawaiian natives.
