James II and VII (1633-1701), and Anne, duchess of York (1637-1671), his first wife. They gave birth to eight children, including the future queens Mary and Anne. Plates from Isaac de Larrey's 'Histoire d'Angleterre' (1697-1713), from a design by Adriaen van der Werff (1659-1722), acclaimed as the most important Dutch Master during his lifetime, although his reputation declined from the late 18th century onwards.
