A pair of portraits after Peter Paul Rubens of the Grand Duke and Duchess of Tuscany. Johanna of Austria, mother of Marie de Médicis, Queen and Regent of France (1573 - 1642). The Grand Duchess standing in front of a draped curtain, wearing a brocaded dress and pearl jewellery. Her marriage to Francesco I de Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany, took place on 18 December 1565 in Florence. Francesco I de Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany (1541 - 1587), father of Marie de Médicis, Queen and Regent of France (1573 - 1642). The Grand Duke stands on a balcony, wearing breeches and ermine-trimmed cape, with cross of the Order of St Stephen. His left hand rests on a cane, with a draped curtain behind. Plates 2 and 3 from a series of twenty-four portraits 'La Gallerie du Palais du Luxembourg', by Gérard Edelinck (1640 - 1707) after Peter Paul Rubens (1577 - 1640). The paintings now hang in Paris, in the Musée du Louvre.
