Sr Anthony Vandyke Kt.
Thos Worlidge Fecit
Etching, platemark 140 x 95mm (5½ x 3¾"). Small margins; on thin cream tissue; glued to backing sheet at corners and tipped into album sheet.
Dramatic portrait of Anthony van Dyck, probably copied from Vorsterman's in the 'Icones Principum Virorum' of c.1630-45. That print itself purported to be after a self-portrait by van Dyck, but the grisaille on which it is based (now kept in the collection of the Duke of Buccleuch, Boughton House) is of uncertain attribution. Lifetime impression of this print.
State ii/iii; W50; D222; Ex collection of the Late Hon. C. Lennox-Boyd.
[Ref: 32806] £50.00
