A very rare souvenir handkerchief commemorating the return of George V and Queen Mary from India, where they had attended the Delhi Durbar, a ceremony where they were formally presented as the Emperor and Empress of India, 12 December, 1911. Within a border of flags and leaves are portraits of George, Mary and the Prince of Wales (Edward VIII), and a schedule. They had disembarked from HMS Medina at Portrsmouth, taking the Royal Train to Victoria then a coach to Buckingham Palace via Parliament Square and Whitehall. Mrs S. Burgess specialised in these paper souvenirs in the early 20th century.
