Action off the Isle of Man during the Seven Years' War in which Captain Elliott engaged a French squadron headed for the north coast of Ireland. The French were commanded by 'the famous Thurot' (Francois Thurot, 1727-1760), privateer, smuggler and captain, who was killed during the battle. From of a series of prints made from paintings by marine painter Francis Swain (c.1719-82) recording celebrated naval battles which were probably reduced copies of other engravings issued by the same publisher.
Parker 66 (not in, although a larger engraving, probably from the same picture by Swain, is listed and dated to c.1770)
