Portrait of Desiderius Erasmus (c.14661536), perhaps the most important European humanist and scholar of the period; standing with a Terminus statue within a highly ornamented Renaissance arch, richly decorated with fruits and several figures, including two atlases, two naked figures with horns of plenty, the heads of a lion and a ram. The woodblock is preserved in the Kupferstichkabinett, Basel. The 'Museum Faesch' is an art museum in Basel, founded in the 17th century.
