The Royal Military College at Sandhurst, Surrey, during the visit of William IV and Queen Adelaide. William de la Motte (1775-1863) won the favour of George III, who helped him gain a place at the Royal Academy under Benjamin West. In 1803 he was appointed drawing master at the R.M.C.
