Christian von Mechel (1737-1817) the Swiss print publisher and engraver. He trained first in Nuremberg and then under Wille from 1757. In 1764 he set up in Basle as a publisher with a large 'factory' of engravers in his employment. Between 1778-1793 he took three long visits to Vienna as curator/publisher of the Habsburg painting collection.
