Napoleon I (1769-1821), French Emperor from 1804 to 1815. The portrait from which this print derives was painted in April 1815, during the '100 days' between Napoleon's return from Elba and the Battle of Waterloo. The print itself was published soon after the Battle of Waterloo. In this sense the print incorporates both the period of Napoleon's final hopes and the subsequent end of his military career.
Provenance: Elizabeth Anne Hippisley of Ston Easton.
[Ref: 29451] £95.00
