William Cobbett (1763 - 1835) was an essayist, politician and agriculturalist, most notable for his contraversial material, published in the 'Political Register'. He wrote many polemics, on subjects from political reform to religion, but is best known for his book from 1830, Rural Rides, in which he recorded the points of view both of a farmer and a social reformer, documenting the early nineteenth century countryside and its people.
