Plate nineteen from a series of engravings depicting various hermits in the wilderness. These were first engraved by Jan and Martin Sadeler after Maarten de Vos c.1585. A set of copies by Nicolaas de Bruyn were published by Thomas de Leu in around 1606. The present item is from a later set of copies, some of which are signed 'et picart fc'.
