Robert Boyle (1627-1691) the natural philospher, chemist, physicist and inventor; his book 'The Sceptical Chymist' is seen as a cornerstone book in the field of chemistry, and as one of the founders of modern chemisty he is known for his 'Boyle's Law'. One of a number of stipple heads for the 'Encyclopaedia Londinensis, Universal Dictionary of Arts, Sciences and Literature' by Chapman, published by J. Wilkes, 1795-1810.
