Robert Rich, 2nd Earl of Warwick (1587-1658), naval officer and colonial promoter mostly associated with the island of Catalina (Providencia) off Nicaragua, where he arrived in 1629 to set up plantations. He was a supporter of Puritan and Parliamentarian causes. Engraved by William Faithorne (c.1620-91), one of the most significant and prolific printmakers in seventeenth-century Britain. This print was originally engraved on the same plate as a portrait of Henry Rich, Earl of Holland
