A very rare engraving with large margins. Plate 394 x 285mm. 15½ x 11¼". Pin hole in background.
Sophia of Hanover (1630-1714), grandaughter of James I, cousin of Charles II & James II. She married Ernst August of Hanover, becoming mother of George I. Portrait; short half-length facing front, head tilted slightly to right, glancing towards the viewer, wearing a dark gown trimmed with ermine, black ruffle around her face and black veil with a peaked headdress; in an etched circular frame on a plinth with plaque and crest depicting a rearing horse.
