Diego Asensio de Vicuņa was an admiral during the War of the Spanish Succession (1701-1714). On March 9, 1704 two galleons under his command, Santa Teresa and Port Coeli, encountered five English ships led by Sir George Rooke; after a seven hour battle in close action, Admiral Vicuņa surrendered. His ships were towed to Lisbon, with his flagship, Santa Teresa, so damaged that she sank at the entrance of Lisbon.
