The single ship action between HMS Avon and USS Wasp, fought during the War of 1812. The Wasp forced the Avon to surrender, but she could not be taken as a prize, as other British brig-sloops appeared and prepared to engage. The Avon sank shortly after the battle. From Bowen's "Naval Monument".
