During the War of 1812, HMS Bonne Citoyenne ran aground and was damaged forcing her to dock into Salvador, Brazil, for repairs. Whilst she was in port, two American warships, the USS Constitution and USS Hornet arrived. Hornet send a challenge to Bonne Citoyenne, however Captain Greene declined the challenge, but stated that he stood ready to accept the opportunity should the circumstances be different. Constitution then left leaving Hornet alone, but the arrival of HMS Montagu finally forced Hornet to leave. From Bowen's "Naval Monument".
