The Estcourt family descend from one of William the Conqueror's knights, and held the Shipton Moyne estate (nr. Tetbury, Glos) from 1303 until the house was demolished in 1964. C19th members of the family include the MP for Wiltshire, a general in the Crimean War and the vicar of Long Neunton.
