A sea chart of the coast of Africa from Cape Verde (Dakar) to just south of Benguela in Angola, published in the 'Atlas maritimus & commercialis: or, a General View of the World, so far as Relates to Trade & Navigation', which contained only charts of the greatest commercial significance to the English. This map was included because of the importance of the area for ivory, gold and, of course, the slave trade. Edmond Halley, the Astronomer Royal, wrote a introduction discussing the use of the charts; it is believed that Daniel Defoe was also a contributor to the atlas.
